Mobius, Inc is recognized as one of the seminal alternative artist-run organizations in the United States. Mobius produces and presents performance art, video, sound art, dance, installation and multimedia works by the Mobius Artists Group, their collaborators and guest artists. Negotiating the space between creative people, between creative people and the general public, between art and public space, and among artistic media, have been the basis of its artistic investigations since it was founded in 1977. Working individually and collaboratively, Mobius Artists Group has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Nearly all the work is new or includes an improvisational element that structurally requires the work to be reinvented each time it is presented. Guests and collaborators are chosen for the experimental nature of their work. Mobius has created international exchange projects with artists from Macedonia, Croatia, Poland and Taiwan which have focused on site-specific and publicly-sited works. Mobius artists have presented their work throughout the United States and at venues and festivals in Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. In 2007 Mobius mounted the Mobius Festival of International Performance Arts with 17 artists from 14 countries as well as members of the Mobius Artists Group.
