Award Winner: Dean Fleming
Dean Fleming, has been a painter and sculptor for over fifty years. Known for his work in abstract expressionism featuring geometric and grid-like patterns – even calligraphic -, his later paintings of landscapes express his love of the land and respect for ecology. Bold, exuberant colors in high contrast convey the extremes of nature, and simplicity in design and color feature prominently in works that respect Native American motifs and reflect upon his travels throughout the world. Among his many solo exhibitions are ones at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the Stephen Rosenberg Gallery in New York, and the Gallery of Sante Fe in New Mexico. His work has appeared in many museums, including the Corcoran Gallery in Washington and the Guggenheim Museum in New York. He has had long-time associations with the Six Gallery in San Francisco, California, the Park Place Gallery in New York and Libre Incorporated, the artists’ community he helped create in 1968 in Gardner, Colorado.
